Hello, I'm Julia and I make show stopping celebration cakes.
As you can imagine, being a cake lover and making cakes all the time comes with an occupational hazard and that is that I am constantly battling to keep my weight under control.
It's not just cake either as I have to confess to being a bit of a foodie and there is nothing I enjoy more than visiting the pleasant surroundings of a great restaurant with great food and sitting down to a scrumptious meal with family.
Over the years all this food had the inevitable affect on my waistline and I decided that I needed to take action for the sake of my health. Being overweight brings so many different health issues and my fight with blood cancer a few years ago really brought home to me how precious and fragile life can be.
Following my treatment I was paper thin and the medics were quite worried about me so they encouraged me to eat lots of delicious food to help me gain weight. To a foodie that's like a green light and this, combined with the emotional eating as I struggled to get my head into a good place, meant that very soon I was getting a little round around the edges. That's when I joined Slimming World. I'd been a member before and lost weight but stopped following the plan and, of course, the weight went back on again. I've never been obese but, shall we say, just a little heavier than I should be so this time around, with my renewed enthusiasm for life, I promised myself that I would not give up, no matter how many bumps in the road. After all, nobody's perfect and you've got to have a life, right? That's the great thing about Slimming World, you can enjoy a healthy balanced diet (well, it's not a diet really as nothing is banned, just a healthy eating plan) and still have treats along the way. For me this was perfect as cake, cookies and chocolate could still be on the menu! It wasn't long after this that I started to look into making a range of waistline-friendly cakes to keep the syn value down (the system Slimming World use to regulate consumption of food that will make you gain weight if you eat too much of it).
Then along comes Covid-19 and the news that two of the driving factors behind the seriousness of the disease in some people are obesity and diabetes and that generally the first one leads to the second. Boy, am I pleased that I have my waistline-friendly range to fall back on!

And the best news is that you can take advantage of this too! Containing less fat and sugar than my celebration cakes, they are far less damaging to to your waistline than traditional cakes and perfect for those times when you are trying to lose a few pounds. So if, like me, you've been piling them on during the covid lockdown and need to think about getting back into shape, but still want to enjoy a little treat, then you know who to call 😉 I'm adding to the range all the time so it's worth checking back frequently to see what's new. And if you are following the Slimming World healthy eating plan, I've even worked out the approximate syn values for you! I should add though that aside from being a member, I am in no way associated with Slimming World and you should always check syn values with your trained consultant or on the Slimming World website.
Of course, these waistline-friendly cakes are no substitute for a show stopping wedding cake or celebration cake if you or your loved ones have a special occasion to enjoy and I'd be happy to make one of those for you too. Or how about a novelty cake to add a bit more WOW! factor? This pandemic won't last for ever and as the country emerges from lockdown I'm sure there will be lots of celebrations going on.
If you want to order a wedding cake, celebration cake or any of my waistline-friendly cakes you can contact me here on the website, email juliascake.eatit@gmail.com or private message me via Facebook or Instagram.
Hope you are all keeping safe and well.
Sharing the cake love!
